Visa celebrates the arrival of contactless payments on TfL services with 3D art installation at Waterloo station
Visa Europe has crafted an immersive 3D art installation at Waterloo Station in celebration of contactless payment on TfL services becoming available from next week (Tuesday 16 September).
Featuring a likeness of Visa ambassador and the fastest man on earth Usain Bolt, the image highlights how contactless payments should make TfL journeys ‘faster, easier and more convenient’.
Nick Mackie, head of contactless at Visa Europe, commented: “Tuesday 16 September marks a great day for Londoners. No longer will London transport users need to queue for a ticket, or to top up their Oyster card. Contactless journeys will offer a convenient, fast and cost effective way of paying for travel around the city. Contactless payment use has reached record highs in the past few months, as our latest stats show, and with TfL offering contactless across all its services this is only set to accelerate further.”
Contactless journeys on TfL services work in the same way as Oyster cards using credit, debit or pre-paid cards instead, by touching in and out on the readers at the start and end of every journey users are charged pay as you go fares which are cheaper than paying in cash.
Figures released by Visa show contactless payments have increased month-on-month by seven per cent, reaching a transaction value of £136.4m.
