Samsung has launched its Galaxy Note 4, curved touchscreen device Note Edge and wearable Samsung Gear S and Samsung Gear VR.

Samsung executive Gregory Lee said the company wants to "change what consumers expect in a smartphone, all over again."

As predicted, the company launched the Note 4 at the event in New York, with the smartphone including a 16-megapixel camera with a sharper zoom as well as a front facing ‘selfie’ camera.

For the first time, the camera includes optical image stabilisation, and the device includes a metal frame to make it sturdier than the Note 3.

Ines van Gennip, marketing director for IT and mobile at Samsung UK & Ireland, said: “The new Galaxy Note 4 introduces the most refined Note experience to-date, combining all the latest technology from the Galaxy series to create a truly unique mobile experience for our customers, allowing them to do everyday tasks quickly, precisely and with greater ease, especially when out and about.”

The Galaxy Note 4 will be available in Charcoal Black, Frost White, Bronze Gold, and Blossom Pink in global markets from October

The Note Edge is similar in design, but is slightly smaller and features a curved screen that ‘falls’ over one side of the phablet. This section of the device contains panels, which can be used for shortcuts to favourite apps, in-app controls, or for showing updates from various apps without disrupting the experience of watching a film or taking a photo.

The Galaxy Note Edge will be available in Charcoal Black and Frost White in select markets through Samsung’s retail channels, e-commerce and carriers later this year.

Virtual reality made a feature in Samsung’s presentation, with the launch of the Samsung Gear VR, powered by Oculus.

The Gear VR looks to provide users with a way to experience and consume mobile content wirelessly. A range of film, gaming, 360 degree video, and educational/experiential content can be viewed through the device.

“The Samsung Gear VR goes far beyond expectations of how mobile technology can be used to consume content, and is a powerful representation of the progressive innovation of the Gear series,” said JK Shin, president and CEO of the IT mobile communications division at Samsung Electronics. “We are pleased to have partnered with Oculus VR to bring this incredibly immersive mobile content experience to consumers.”

While already announced last week, the Samsung Gear S also made an appearance at the event. The Samsung Gear S features a 2-inch curved Super AMOLED display. It allows users to read messages and notifications, instantly reply to incoming messages using the onscreen keyboard, or use the S voice functionality to ensure tasks can be completed immediately.

Shin added: “The Samsung Gear S redefines the idea of the smart wearable and the culture of mobile communication. It will let consumers live a truly connected life anywhere, anytime.”
