A Californian teacher has apologised for posting offensive tweets where she said she wanted to "stab some kids" and pour coffee on "the little a-holes".

Krista Hodges, a teacher at Newark Memorial High School, received a written reprimand from district officials after the school was alerted to her posts by a colleague.

On 23 June Hodges tweeted, "I wanna stab some kids. Is that bad? 19 more days". Another tweet reads: "I am getting Starbucks for sure before school tomorrow. That way I'll be refreshed AND have something to dump on the little a-holes."

On 18 April she also wrote about how happy she was to be on a 10-day break and "especially to be away from the ones who truly my patience & make my trigger finger itchy."

According to the San Jose Mercury News Hodges continues to teach at the school following the written reprimand with Tim Erwim, interim superintendent of Newark Unified School District, confirming it had investigated Hodges tweets.

Hodges has since said she "deeply regrets" her actions and that she did not intend for her posts to be taken seriously. Speaking to the San Jose Mercury News Hodges admitted her posts were "unprofessional" and that the messages were in response to "troubled students" who had left her frustrated.

Since the incident Hodges has deleted her Twitter account and has said she will no longer use social media websites.
