Carpet specialist Desso has engaged creative studio Young to produce an animation as part of its wider ‘Great Indoors’ campaign which aims to raise awareness of the importance of a healthy indoor environment.

The hand-drawn animations visualise findings from a B2B survey conducted by Desso in partnership with Asthma UK, bringing a series of indoor air quality (IAQ) statistics to life and showing how poor IAQ is linked to respiratory conditions such as asthma.

Of the animations, Paul Gosling, director of Young, said because there was so much information to share the creative had to be “done in a playful and engaging way”. He added: “We worked with HatTrick and Desso to produce a storyboard and then got one of our illustrators to pencil draw a series of stills. It was a very straightforward design approach but it allowed Desso and Asthma UK to share their findings without over complicating them.”

Malin Cunningham of HatTrick, the agency handling PR for the ‘Great Indoors’ initiative, commented: “The animation is a key part of the wider ‘Great Indoors’ campaign which will be executed across a number of different platforms in the coming months including everything from traditional PR and social media to digital and TV advertising channels to highlight the importance of healthy indoor air quality in commercial environments.”

In addition to showcasing how poor IAQ can impact on health, ‘Great Indoors’ also highlights the potential business costs of underestimating its impact.
