Microsoft and Starcom MediaVest Group pen video advertising deal

Microsoft and Starcom MediaVest Group (SMG) have agreed a deal which gives the agency and its clients access to premium video inventory across Microsoft's digital advertising suite, including Xbox, Skype, Ads in Apps, MSN and the Microsoft Video Ad Network.

The deal makes the importance of digital video opportunities to advertisers across all devices, enabling SMG to execute, buy and measure video ad campaigns in the same way as traditional TV media.

Stephen Kim, vice president for global agencies for Microsoft Advertising, commented: "Through our suite of devices and services, we can deliver a true cross-screen, premium video advertising experience at-scale that will unlock new opportunities to truly enhance brand connections with consumers."

MediaVest managing director, digital marketplace, Ritu Trivedi, added: "People consume video across all kinds of screens all times of the day, so it's essential we create solutions for advertisers to help find people wherever they may be and determine how to scale creative ads across devices. This agreement will help us deliver on this need by leveraging the scale and breadth Microsoft can offer."

The two companies will also work with third-party firms on new ways to measure non-browser based video campaigns on Microsoft platforms. SMG will have early access to analysis from Microsoft's Research and Insights group, the agency will also get early looks at new video capabilities Microsoft introduces.

The news of the partnership with Starcom MediaVest Group follows Microsoft's appointment of Stuart Flint who jumped ship from Yahoo after just 10 days as managing director of the company. His new role at Microsoft as UK sales director is on hold for at least six months due to contract stipulations at Yahoo, he takes over from Simon Davies at Microsoft as he relocates to the US for the role of general manager, West Coast, Microsoft advertising online.
