Security researchers have launched a tool to help users check if their Snapchat details have been leaked by hackers, according to reports.

The news that hackers had exploited Snapchat’s security to create and publish a database of user’s phone data, spread earlier this week.

The hackers are thought to have published phone and username details of some 4.6 million Snapchat users on a site called SnapchatDB, which has since been suspended.

A statement from the hackers said at the time said: “This information was acquired through the recently patched Snapchat exploit and is being shared with the public to raise awareness on the issue.

“The company was too reluctant at patching the exploit until they knew it was too late and companies that we trust with our information should be more careful when dealing with it.”

However, according to The Telegraph researchers who had initially warned that the photo-sharing site was vulnerable to security failures, have created a tool that can inform people whether or not their data was included in the leak.

Snapchat has confirmed it is working with the police on the problem. Yet Gibson Security has launched a website called GS Lookup (pictured above), where people can check enter their usernames to find out if they were included in the leak, according to the report.
