The E network has apologised following complaints about a ‘fun fact’ which appeared during its online coverage of the Golden Globe Awards.

The fact read "Fun Fact: Michael J. Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1991."

Following a number of complaints on Twitter, E apologised for the gaffe, saying "We regret the insensitive classification of Michael J. Fox's Parkinson's diagnosis during our Eonline [sic] live stream ... We understand the serious nature of the disease and sincerely apologise."

Another fact given on the stream was that Robert Redford had polio as a child.

These led to a meme of people creating their own fun facts, such as ‘Ryan Seacrest is wearing a diaper’ and ‘There’s no afterlife’.
