Manchester-based creative, advertising and communications agency BJL is opening its doors to aspiring regional creative talent by working with three creative teams from three North West universities and colleges, to offer students their first taste of industry life.

Behind the project is Tom Richards, BJL creative director, who commented: "We see this as a great opportunity to invest in the future of the Manchester advertising industry."

To recruit students BJL creatives Paul Kinsella and Carla Hawkins created a series of campaign posters, each featuring the face of BJL creative with the paper crumpled to create the effect of wrinkles and the headline ‘Fresh faces wanted’.

Since then students from Central Lancashire and Salford Universities, as well as Stockport College, have been mentored by a different BJL creative team over the last month addressing a series of challenges, including launching a new range of paint, raising awareness of online privacy protection, and promoting St George’s Day, with the winning team from each university receiving a two-week placement at BJL this summer.

The team deemed to be the most successful during the two-week internship in June and July will then be offered the chance to kick start their creative career with a two-month placement and the possibility of a long term role at BJL.

Richards added: “There’s nothing like getting real world experience, so we wanted to create a structured programme that would help us share our knowledge and help open doors to students, whether here or at other agencies. We wish all of the participating students the best of luck and look forward to seeing the winners around the office.”
