After a tumultuous couple of weeks that have seen him slated for arriving late on his opening night at the O2, embroiled in a fight with the paparazzi in London and supposedly kicked out of a Paris hotel, Justin Bieber has yet another thing to worry about as he faces a bitter battle with Rihanna as the Bajan star vies for his crown as the most viewed person on YouTube.

Three weeks ago Rihanna managed to steal Bieber’s most viewed crown but the Canadian teen fought back and regained pole position. At the weekend Starcount’s social media tracker registered over 3.5 billion views on Bieber’s VEVO channel and 3.4 billion on Rihanna’s.

The stats show Rihanna is in a good position to knock Bieber off the top spot as she managed to gain six million YouTube views on Monday, two million more views than Bieber. Also gaining on Bieber is Korean pop star PSY, who currently holds the most popular individual YouTube video in history title with 1.4 billion views for his hit ‘Gangnam Style’, and 2 billion views in total.

Across social media as a whole Bieber and Rihanna are also fighting it out for supremacy according to Starcount’s aggregated chart of the most popular social stars. Rihanna claims the top spot for Facebook with 67 million fans, and Bieber rules an engaged army of 36 million followers on Twitter.

Rihanna and Bieber both lag behind Britney Spears on Google+ as it was revealed yesterday that Ms Spears is the first person to six million circles on the social network.
