A Social Media Agency's Iona St Joseph takes a look at what people have been talking about on and about the world of social media this week.

LinkedIn’s Interns Perform Cringiest Flashmob Ever

Next time your (undoubtedly fairly paid) intern gets you ‘just’ a box of chocolates to say thank you for having them, just be grateful that they haven’t done what LinkedIn’s over-enthusiastic team of interns did.May I present you with what is, in my opinion, the world’s cringiest flash mob. Seriously, be prepared to want the ground to swallow you up…

Popular posts get all the attention

Facebook have announced yet another annoying change to the way they make us view our news feed. Oh joy.The brains behind the site have claimed that their data shows that users read more of their total news feed updates if the content is interesting, and have said that this justifies the use of an algorithm to organise posts, rather than publishing posts in chronological order. Yeah, right.I can’t even begin to understand the point in this. Sure, it’s handy for douchey brand posts getting to the top of everyone’s news feed, but seeing a friends’ post at the top of your newsfeed from 12 hours ago just because one of their mates has taken a picture of them asleep on the loo in Ibiza is just plain annoying.Godammit Facebook, stop messing about trying to make the site more like Twitter and let us carry on our merry way, reading status updates in chronological order. Although, if you could create some kind of limit on the number of photos parents are allowed to upload of their kids each month, that would be great. If I was a total loser, I would make some sort of ‘Keep it Chronological and carry On’ joke, but I’m not, so I won’t…

The Daily Star’s ‘ultimate guide to social media sites’

Feel a bit out of the loop on social media, and want the full lowdown on all the sites you need to know about? Well fear not, the Daily Star has launched what they have called The ultimate guide to social media sites’.Not only does it have a grand total of eight social networks on there, it also has some really handy tips and info, like ‘Premier League footballer Ashley Cole loves Snapchat’. Insightful. The article is essentially a bit of scaremongering for parents on how their children stand to be abused and bullied online. Whilst people are calling for tougher regulations (which, I agree, needs to happen to an extent) where’s the call for better education and making sure people are brought up well enough to know that bullying someone is just not ok?Maybe don’t worry so much about how you’ll get in touch with your 11-year-old if they don’t have a mobile phone, instead about how you’re going to regulate their social media use if they do.

Amazon Unveils Pinterest feature

Amazon has, very sneakily, unveiled its own version of Pinterest, which they have named ‘Amazon Collections’.The version of the site is image-heavy and allows users to save, share and discover new products by browsing items that others have saved. Similar to Pinterest, you can create lists of items, and can find and follow other users on the site.Apparently they have been testing the feature with bloggers, and only rolled it out to everyone last week, on the sly.It doesn’t seem a slick as Pinterest- it basically just looks a bit like a list of crap you can buy on Amazon, but I’m sure as you tailor your likes and dislikes, it will look a bit slicker. It will be interesting to monitor the success of the site, which I think could turn out just to be a glorified wish list on the site.
