Strap yourselves in as Iona St Joseph takes her weekly look at the world of social media, starting with this week's top trending twit...

John Inver-trouble John Inverdale is continuing to face backlash on Twitter and in the real world following the sexist comments he made about French tennis player Marion Bartoli.According to Inverdale, female tennis players are supposed to fit certain criteria, which include, but are not limited to, being blonde, leggy and good looking. It turns out that his views aren’t too popular, as the comment he made when he said that Bartoli ‘was never going to be a looker’ has received over 700 complaints. People are STILL talking about it on Twitter, with many calling for the BBC to fire Inverdale from his job as a sports reporter. If he does go, as a Scot, I can’t say I’ll miss his heavily biased views during the Six Nations.Thom Yorke slates SpotifyThom Yorke of Radiohead fame has taken to Twitter to put the boot into Spotify, saying that the streaming service is having a detrimental effect on new music. After withdrawing all his solo material, as well as the songs he recorded as part of Atoms for Peace, Yorke went on to slate Spotify, saying that ‘new artists get paid f*ck all’ from having their material on the music streaming service.Spotify have since rebuffed the comments, saying that they are committed to making the service more artist friendly.I say this as I type along to Spotify, but I’m pretty sure Tom Jones doesn’t have much to worry about making money from the service…David Cameron borks on TwitterOur very own Prime Minister made an excellent Twitter boob the other day, after he ended up tweeting a spoof Twitter account for work and pensions secretary Ian Duncan Smith.Keen followers, and subsequently EVERYBODY on Twitter, were quick to pick up on his mistake, letting him know what an error he had made. I’m not sure how keen David Cameron is to associate himself with a spoof account that tweets things like this:
He doesn’t seem to have deleted the tweet, so he might be keeping it there out of principle. Then again, I’m sceptical as to whether it’s him that actually runs the account.Best new campaign of the week - HondaHonda has launched a new campaign using Vine to respond to tweets in real-time as part of their annual Summer Clearance Sales Event.
The reply shows the Honda steering wheel and then it pans upwards to reveal the image.I love a good Vine campaign, so I look forward to seeing how well this one does for Honda.
