It’s a seismic marketing move that’s bound to make Ronald McDonald erupt with anger.

Cooked up by the fiery minds of DM9 Brazil, Burger King Brazil is urging Whopper devotees to take to Google Maps and participate in renaming a remote volcanic island nestled between Madagascar and Antarctica, changing it from McDonald Island to Whopper Island.

A two-minute-long mockumentary educates viewers on the uninhabited island, which has an active volcano and real fire, with the narrator groaning that it should not have a name like McDonald’s. “The cheapest form of irony,” he says.

The ad prompts viewers to look up the island on Google Maps by its exact coordinates – 53º04’35.69”S 73º30’49.18”E – and comment #IlhaWhopper to help change its name. In doing so, participants stand a chance to win a Whopper coupon.

Juliana Cury, chief marketing officer of Burger King, commented: “If anyone deserves a hot, fire-grilled burger, it’s this team that takes such good care of our volcanoes.”
