With the help of her daughter Maxwell, the star clears up some common confusion about the brand name Chicken of the Sea.

Fans of singer, actor and business mogul Jessica Simpson won’t soon forget the star’s hilarious confusion between chicken and tuna on a 2003 episode of Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. The mix-up, it seems, was due in part to the fact that she was eating tuna from canned seafood brand Chicken of the Sea.

Now, Simpson and her daughter Maxwell give a cheeky nod to the iconic moment in a new ad from Chicken of the Sea.

In the 35-second spot, created in partnership with Reach Agency, Simpson snacks on a packet of lemon garlic light tuna while lounging on a sofa. When Maxwell asks what she’s eating, the star responds: “It’s called Chicken of the Sea. But it’s not really chicken – it’s tuna, so don’t get confused by it.” Incredulously, Maxwell replies: “Who would ever get confused by that?”

Simpson goes on to tell viewers that Chicken of the Sea’s lean protein keeps her energized as an on-the-go mom and businesswoman. She showcases the brand’s new Tuna and Salmon Packets, which come in a variety of flavors, like sweet & spicy, maple smokehouse and everything bagel seasoning.

“Chicken of the Sea is the one for me,” Simpson quips. It’s a tagline for the brand’s new messaging platform, ‘Chicken of the Sea, It’s the One for Me.’

The brand’s leadership says Simpson was an ideal spokesperson to kick off the new initiative. “To announce our newest platform … it seemed perfectly fitting to partner with our friend Jessica Simpson to share how Chicken of the Sea fits into her busy life as a mom, artist and entrepreneur,” said Griffin Raasch, the company’s director of marketing. “Her iconic, ‘Is it chicken or is it fish?’ moment is part of the fabric of pop culture, and we had a lot of fun working with Jessica to give it a new spin in 2024.”

To promote its new Tuna and Salmon Packets, Chicken of the Sea has launched the ‘It’s the One for Me’ sweepstakes. Until February 29, fans are encouraged to submit photos and videos of how Chicken of the Sea products enhance their life. One lucky winner will be awarded $10,000.
