The Spanish former midfielder envies the chance to get lost, march with the crowd, start chants and mess about with the rivals when supporting your team during the competition.

Travel company Expedia has just launched its latest spot titled ‘Nothing Beats Being There’ starring football legend and former Arsenal player Cesc Fàbregas.

The promo film splices the sports star with footage of the fun and energy of living the game within the host cities across Europe. Throughout the film, Fàbregas shares how he’s “never been to the Uefa Champions League… not really,” meaning that he has never quite had that same fan experience.

Michele Rousseau, senior vice-president of global brands at Expedia Group, said: “We’re proud Expedia Live is an Official Supplier of the Uefa Champions League and can enable fans from around the world to travel and discover new cities, as nothing beats being there. Traveling to watch a game allows fans to experience new cultures and create special memories with friends and family that will last a lifetime.”

The ad is the work of creative agency Anomaly and will live as part of a series of digital films across key football publishers, paid social and owned and partner channels.

Joe Corcoran, executive creative director at Anomaly London, added: “The best partnerships bring out more in each other. The Uefa Champions League allows traveling teams to compete in the best cities around Europe and Expedia makes travel easier for fans to experience games in the best way possible.

“Over the last few seasons, we’ve been fortunate enough to work with players and managers who take part in the competition and were struck by an insight our work unearthed, which was that despite traveling to all these cities for games, very few of them have truly experienced the places as cultural destinations. It’s this insight that inspired this work with Cesc Fàbregas and Expedia.”
