Two short films chronicle the inspiring journeys of Latino NFL stars Fred Warner, Alijah Vera-Tucker and Christian Gonzalez.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, which kicks off today, the NFL has released a new campaign titled ‘Hometown Heroes’ as part of the league’s season-long campaign dedicated to honoring Latino heritage, ‘Por La Cultura.’

Produced by Admiration, the ad series delves deep into the origin stories of three Latino NFL standouts: Fred Warner of the San Francisco 49ers, Alijah Vera-Tucker of the New York Jets and Christian Gonzalez of the New England Patriots.

In so doing, Hometown Heroes seeks to emphasize a universal truth shared by Latino NFL players and athletes at large: their passion for the game and subsequent journeys to success were profoundly shaped by their hometown heroes.

Earlier this week, Warner’s vignette also debuted, which sees the 49ers linebacker discuss growing up in San Marcos, California with his mom, grandmother and siblings. In the clip, he claims his unwavering determination was a direct result of his mother’s strong leadership and being nourished by his grandmother’s signature breakfast – eggs and tortillas. While proudly waving the Mexican flag, he proclaims: “This is for the community… for those who came together so this kid could achieve his dreams.”

Meanwhile, Alijah Vera-Tucker of the New York Jets pays tribute to his father as his personal ‘Hometown Hero,’ the one who provided consistent support and motivation. His deep connection to his family is symbolized by a tattoo on his arm that reads ‘Mi Familia.’

Finally, Christian Gonzalez, representing the New England Patriots, shares his perspective on his ‘Hometown Heroes,’ acknowledging the name on his back and the nation that has always held a special place in his heart: Colombia. He proudly displays the Colombian flag in the lining of his jacket, showcasing his deep-rooted heritage and the source of his inspiration. In the ad, he adds: “For the name on my back and the nation that’s always in my heart.”

Individual vignettes that expand on Vera-Tucker and Gonzalez’s journey to the NFL will be released throughout the 2023 season, while the hero spot will run season-long.
