Ad of the Day: UN uses 40-year-old Carl Sagan speech to warn of global warming disasters
Short film from UN Global Compact, AlmapBBDO and Boiler Filmes features animal automatons powered by the words of the late astronomer.
United Nations Global Compact, the intergovernmental organization’s sustainability initiative, is using the voice of the late Carl Sagan to push the urgency of the global warming crisis.
In the short film, we see a reel-to-reel tape machine playing warning speeches the cosmologist gave in the 1980s, its rotating ribbon powers various toy animals, causing them to become animated.
The audio includes the lines: “The abundance of greenhouse gases is increasing. One-degree temperature change is enough to produce suffering and famine worldwide. We are in serious trouble.
“If we don’t do the right thing now, there are very serious problems that our children and grandchildren will have to face. We don’t have anywhere else to go. It’s this world or nothing.”
Permission to use the American astronomer’s voice for the United Nations project came from Cosmos Studios.
