Ryan Reynolds serenades Rob McElhenney to mark birthday and tease FX series
A musical turn from the Canadian actor and agency owner trails next series of Made In Wrexham.
Among their other ventures, actors, producers and football club owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are known for staging pranks and practical jokes on each other’s birthdays.
The latest stunt is an original tune sung by Reynolds – ostensibly to mark his business partner’s special day, but really just to mock his multisyllabic surname – while also boosting awareness of the pair’s FX show, Welcome To Wrexham. The second season of the series is currently under production.
The music video-cum-trailer, ’It’s McElhenney’, highlights the difficulty TV presenters and interviewers have had with the moniker and guides listeners to the correct pronunciation. The film itself was produced by Maximum Effort, Reynolds’s ad agency.

The song was written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, songwriters of La La Land and Dear Evan Hansen, and performed by the Wrexham Celtic Chorus with a star turn from Reynolds.
The video includes McElhenny’s castmates from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Kaitlin Olson, Glenn Howerton and Charlie Day.
