From Q1, Binge subscribers will be exposed to up to four minutes of ads per hour. The advertising tier will be added to an existing subscription tier, meaning users wishing to remain ad-free will have to upgrade to a new one.
Foxtel is yet to reveal the cost of the ad-supported tier. Currently, its lowest level is $10 a month.
The move follows Netflix’s announcement of its cheaper ad-supported tier last week, which will cost $6.99 a month. Rival Disney+ is expected to introduce an ad-supported tier next year.

Local rival Stan has 2.5m subscribers, and Binge has 1.3m.
