Tomchak’s will lead a jury of industry experts in identifying the cleverest, boldest and most original purveyors of news and views from around the world.

Under his leadership Standard.co.uk has won four Drum Online Awards in 2019: Best National News Website, Best Campaign (Aids Free), Best Lifestyle News Website and the judges Best Website.

On what he expects to see from the entrants this year, Tomchak said: “I want clear strategies that are creative and diverse and have tangible, measurable outcomes. The judges will want to see impactful journalism that reflects and is relevant to the diverse audiences we serve.

“Submissions that show creativity, strong editorial acumen and diversity will stand out. That could be new ways of attracting audiences, commercial diversity, a story that managed to hold power to account, something unique and entertaining…. or something else entirely.”

Tomchak joined the Evening Standard in May 2017 with a mandate to accelerate the growing digital audience and commercial offering. He is responsible for editorial across all digital platforms, as well as leading on digital growth and innovation.

Having started his career in product development in the financial sector, he moved onto various broadcasters and publishers, with more recent roles as head of digital at Number 10 Downing Street and the Cabinet Office and Deputy Director to the Government Communications Service. He also founded and chairs the Artificial Intelligence In Media (AIIM) working group.

“The desire for relevant, trusted information is one of the key things fuelling growth in digital audiences,” added Tomchak. “The media industry needs to help audiences to find that quality content and migrate to trusted brands for best in class reporting and analysis.

“These awards showcase the very best of the digital content industry. If you want your work to be noticed by your peers with industry-wide recognition, then this is the place to be. Given how high-profile the awards are, the impact of winning an award – or even being nominated – is great for a team’s morale. Nothing is better than seeing your hardworking colleagues celebrate on the night.”

The Drum Online Media Awards is now open for entry. Make sure you enter before Friday 14 February for your chance to win a coveted Drum gong.
