Copa90 announced a new partnership with NextVR to deliver live soccer events, tournament footage and content projects
As a debut of this partnership, the two worked on a virtual reality live broadcast of the International Champions Cup match between AC Milan and Manchester United (June 25). Copa90, the presenting VR sponsor for the broadcast will also feature footage through Oculus’ designated Venues app.
NextVR has also slated a dedicated Copa90 channel through its app, debuting with a behind-the-scenes access to US Soccer star Christian Pulisic in a collaboration between the player, the Chicago Cubs and Borussia Dortmund prior to a Manchester City match.
Danny Keens, NextVR vice president of content said to The Drum: “As the global leader in fan driven storytelling, we’re thrilled to partner with Copa90. We share a common passion of changing the way soccer fans experience the beautiful game around the world. And through virtual reality, we have the ability to bring them even closer to the experience.”
Tom Thirwall of Copa90 added: “NextVR’s technology is mind-blowing, and for the first time ever, fans can watch Copa90 in high resolution VR, providing them an unparalled viewing experience. Copa90 wants to unite the world through soccer and this partnership and technology will only bring fans around the world closer together.”
Complementing the July 25 match has been a three-part series that looked to capture the energy and excitement around the teams, tournament, and players of the ICC that will be released across Copa90 social platforms prior to the match. The series will also include Copa90 shows, including Fifa Showdown, where Copa90 planned to give away Oculus GO virtual reality headsets to promote the live VR broadcast.
