Blis has made a name for itself in Singapore, not just for its location data expertise, but for its now annual media agency event the Golden Shaker Competition.
This year's competition kicks off in the coming weeks and The Drum has partnered to share the latest from the movers and shakers (groan) of the Singapore and Asia Pacific media scene.
Last year’s inaugural Golden Shaker competition saw 10 top media agency teams battling it out to deliver the winning cocktail. With guidance from world famous mixologists - courtesy of Proof & Company, the folks behind 28 HongKong Street (voted Asia’s best bar in 2016) - each team was required to create one cocktail that best represented their media agency brand, which they then took to The Golden Shaker Grand Final and re-made in front of a panel of expert judges. Last year’s title went to Omnicom Media Group for their ‘Sir Basil likes Reggae’ cocktail masterpiece.
This year, in partnership with The Drum, Golden Shaker 2016 promises to deliver even more delight. The cocktail sessions will be hosted at The Proof Flat, located at 43A Hong Kong Street, once again with awarding-winning bartenders. Proof & Company is kindly sponsoring the spirits for each session.
Regina Goh, MD Asia, Blis, said: “We rarely see the heads from Asia’s largest agencies coming together outside of formal networking events, and so we wanted to create an event which allows our industry’s leaders to get together and roll up their sleeves, learn from the world's best bartenders and show us their very own version of how Singapore’s best cocktails are made. We’re very proud of this and we’re looking to recreate it this year with a slight twist. Singapore, are you ready to shake and roll?!”

To add some extra spice, this year’s challenge will be to draw a ticket at the start of the individual team cocktail-making sessions. This ticket will indicate the base they must use - the principal ingredient of a cocktail. Agency Heads from OMG, GroupM, Dentsu Aegis, Publicis, APD and others, are expected to participate once again.
“Shaken and Stirred - the perfect antidote to Media Mix fever. We had a fabulous time last year, whipping up egg whites and being introduced to cinnamon liquor….the after party at Blis bar was the veritable umbrella in the cocktail glass. Looking forward to being back behind the bar this year,” said Siddarth Correya, director of mobile, APAC, MediaCom.
The heat stages of the competition will take place over the coming weeks in Singapore with the final taking place at the end of October. Throughout, The Drum will be publishing interviews with agency leadership, unveiling the trends behind Singapore’s burgeoning cocktail and drinks scene and revealing the winners and recipes at the end.
Also involved as partners are bottle shop and event space The Proof Flat and mobile live streaming startup Peeqr.
