Tottenham Hotspur have become the first Premier League club to use Facebook Live to launch their new home kit for the upcoming 2016/17 season.

The live stream unveiled the new Under Armour kits at the club’s training centre in Enfield before the players begun their training and featured Christian Eriksen, Victor Wanyama, Michel Vorm and Kieran Trippier.

The decision to use Facebook Live for the unveiling represents a first for the Premier League club and is likely to become an increasingly popular move given the huge audiences on the platform and Facebook’s assertion that the average viewing duration of video on its platform is three times longer when it is shown live.

The broadcast, which was shown live on both Tottenham’s and Under Armour UK’s Facebook pages, has gone on to generate over 71,000 views three hours after the 15 minute live stream ended.

Designed in Under Armour’s Innovation Lab in Baltimore the new kits showcase the brand’s latest technology, weighing just 107 grams the quick-drying fabric has a built in four-way stretch to improve mobility and accelerate dry time.

Discussing the new kits Under Armour’s vice president of global sports marketing, Peter Murray, said: “At Under Armour it is our mission to make all athletes better, and we will support the club to take the necessary extra steps both in the Premier League and Champions’ League by supplying them with the most innovative performance wear."

The move reflects the growing trend of sports broadcasters and clubs embracing the potential of Facebook Live and using it to provide fans with a behind the curtain look at what may otherwise not be shown on TV.
