US Creative Work of the Week: Lennox – Degrees of Perfect
Many home appliance brands are currently obsessed with showing consumers how “smart” or “connected” their products are. While heating and air conditioning company Lennox has certainly taken part in this trend – one of its latest ads touts the brand’s iComfort S30 thermostat that can sense changes in your environment – the brand recently had a little fun by taking the spotlight off of functionality and instead showing how the brand’s appliances can help power an art installation.
For the campaign, called ‘Degrees of Perfect,’ Lennox enlisted the help of five street artists to create murals using thermochromic paint, which changes colors when exposed to hot or cold air. When heated air was applied to the murals, the thermochromic paint layer would disappear, revealing a different mural underneath. When exposed to cool air, the top layer would return.
The two-layer murals, which “could be heated and cooled with absolute precision,” were created by street artists Bacon, Dodo Ose, 123Klan, Slick and Zek One with the help of Lennox engineers.
Created by Austin-based GSD&M and production company A’shop Crew, the installation has been voted by readers as US Creative Work of the Week.
According to GSD&M, each artist was tasked with creating a mural around one of the following themes: clean air, solar power, intelligence, quiet systems and balance. Last month, the brand held an exhibition at The Container Yard in LA where visitors could check out the murals.
