Newsweek has announced new hires across their Europe newsroom, with Serena Kutchinsky taking on the role of digital editor of Newsweek Europe and Graham Smith joining as her deputy online news editor. The hires are part of the news outlet's expansion of its European operations.

The hires come as part of parent company IBT Media UK’s plan to promote further growth and increased readership in 2016. Newsweek's headcount is now over 80 and has a monthly readership of 90 million globally, which it hopes to build upon by investing in “quality” journalism.

Serena Kutchinsky joins Newsweek Europe from Prospect Magazine, where she held the title of digital editor, she earlier worked as assistant digital editor of the Sunday Times, prior to this Kutchinsky also worked at Condé Nast, Time Out, and thelondonpaper.

As the leader of the growing digital team, Kutchinsky’s responsibilities lie in planning Newsweek’s strategy for growth. Her deputy Smith (pictured below) joins Newsweek from businesstraveller.com, where he was editor, and earlier held various roles at MailOnline between 2008 to 2012.

Commenting on the new team, Kutchinsky said: “I am delighted to be joining such an historic title and to have the opportunity to help shape its digital future.”

Also joining Newsweek Europe in January is Anthony Cuthbertson, who was recently recognised as digital writer of the year at the 2015 Online Media Awards for his work with International Business Times UK - IBT Media’s flagship news offering.

IBT Media UK is exploring opportunities to scale all its platform business further with digital partnerships. Newsweek currently publishes weekly English print editions in the United States, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia and Latin America.
