Recruitment firm Blue Skies, which specialises in marketing, creative and agency, has closed two of its three offices resulting in 27 redundancies.

The firm’s London and South East division, located in Richmond, and its North division in Manchester have both closed. It leaves Blue Skies with one remaining office in Stratford-Upon-Avon to service the Midlands and South West.

Twenty-seven employees across both offices have been made redundant. Employees in Richmond and Manchester were first informed of the decision last week and both offices have closed on Wednesday.

A source with close knowledge of the situation told The Drum this was due to underperformance and a cost-cutting exercise. As such, after a period of consultation, no staff were offered the option to relocate from Richmond or Manchester to Stratford-Upon-Avon.

However Blue Skies told The Drum the decision to shut down its Richmond and Manchester divisions was made as it looks to create one centralised office.

The Midlands team, comprising 17 staff, will now be “much better placed” to offer the “best national candidates” for a role, it said.

The full extent of the redundancy terms is unclear; employees were given one month's salary on exit while some - depending on legth of service - were offered enhanced packages. Blue Skies declined to go into detail but said it was a “signed off and agreed legal process” over the timescales recommended.

“We’ve had some great employees that we’ve worked with over the years and we wish them all the best in the future.”
