Lloyds Banking Group has opened up Apple Pay to customers served by Lloyds Bank, Halifax and Bank of Scotland.

The three banking brands will bolster the reach of Apple’s NFC mobile payment service following its UK launch - making it the first country to debut the technology after the US.

Lloyd’s joined the growing roster of Apple ready banks and brands as 43 per cent of consumers think contactless payments will be the default transaction mechanic of the future,.

The elephant in the room however is Barclay’s, which continues to evade Apple Pay, likely due to its development of bPay which boasts a number of NFC payment fobs, stickers and even a swipe-to-pay jacket.

Banks in the UK now supporting Apple Pay are American Express, First Direct, HSBC, Halifax, Lloyds, NatWest, NationWide, MBNA, Royal Bank of Scotland, Santander, Ulster and the Bank of Scotland.

In the days following the UK launch, paying for public transport was one of the preferred uses of Apple Pay.
