How the ESPYS played out on Twitter
Last night’s ESPYs – ESPN’s annual sports award show – aired for the first time on ABC. The move was a vote of confidence from Disney higher-ups that the show has moved from niche to mainstream; also, in a TV world dominated by time-shifting, live award shows tend to perform quite well.
For sports fans and pop culture fans, the show didn’t disappoint. The highlight of the night was Caitlin Jenner accepting the Arthur Ashe Courage Award, and Jenner was the most-discussed celebrity on Twitter. Still, there were enough other tweet-worthy moments to rank Jenner’s award acceptance only fourth among them.
