Nintendo president Satoru Iwata dies aged 55
Nintendo has confirmed that its president, Satoru Iwata, has passed away aged 55.
Iwata died on Saturday 11 July due to a bile duct growth, a statement from the gaming giant revealed.
Appointed president in 2002, Iwata oversaw the launch of Nintendo’s Wii and DS platforms and had surgery last year to remove a bile duct growth returning to work in October.
In May it was announced he would be missing Nintendo’s E3 in Los Angeles, which took place June 16-18, most recently he had been helping the Japanese company expand into the mobile gaming sector.
