Twitter sent a message to investors on Monday 22 June that said it is only considering candidates to fill the role of chief executive officer (CEO) who are “in a position to make a full-time commitment to Twitter” and that the search is continuing “with a sense of urgency.”

The announcement comes after current CEO Dick Costolo said earlier this month that he will be stepping down from his role on the first of July.

Currently, co-founder of the social media platform Jack Dorsey is serving as interim CEO. He is also founder and CEO of mobile payments company Square.

Peter Currie, Twitter’s lead independent director and chair of the search committee, said in the message: “In our next CEO, we are looking for a bold thinker and proven leader capable of helping Twitter fully capitalize on its unique platform for the benefit of users, advertisers and employees, and to maximize value for investors in the years ahead."

The company has hired global executive search firm Spencer Stuart to help find a replacement. The search will include both internal and external candidates.
