ESI Media has hired Scott Deutrom, formerly of Tesco, to the newly created role of chief digital revenue officer.

The Independent and Evening Standard owner recently revealed it would revamp all of its sites to not only enhance the reading experience but also render the viewability concerns of its ads redundant in its bid to sell all online space programmatically.

Deutrom has been tasked with driving revenues into ESI’s digital businesses, taking responsibility for the digital commercial team, overseeing the creation and execution of a sales and commercial strategy for all ESI digital platforms, including desktop, mobile and video.

He most recently served at Tesco, working on its Clubcard TV initiative, and has also held key digital positions at Sky Media and Blinkbox Entertainment.

Steve Auckland, group chief executive said: “Scott’s appointment is another step in ESI Media’s continued strategic investment in digital development, as we reorganise and leverage our skills to best serve agencies, partners and clients.

“Following another audience record-breaking month for both standard.co.uk and independent.co.uk (ABC data to be released 18 June) – he joins at the perfect time to gear us up to the next stage of revenue growth. I’m confident Scott’s impressive background and experience will help Jon and Zach build on our digital commercial strategy and unlock new revenue opportunities.”

Scott joins ESI Media on 8 June and will report into Jon O’Donnell, group commercial director, and Zach Leonard, managing director of digital.
