Spotify commits social media fail with US Mother's Day tweet
Spotify has been accused of being sexist and ageist following a Mother's Day tweet asking followers to share how they'd explain the music streaming service to their moms.
The tweet, which has since been deleted, was met with a wave of criticism soon after the message was posted.
@Spotify believes that moms are a bunch of old dummies! Happy #MothersDay! pic.twitter.com/e0542YFvuv

. @SpotifyCares long time premium user here: really disappointed with your ageist/sexist #MothersDay promotion. My mom already uses @spotify

Ahead of #MothersDay, how would you explain ageism and sexism to a @Spotify marketer?

@Spotify Nothing says #MothersDay like, "LOL, moms are so stupid, amiright?!"

The original tweet from Spotify read: "Ahead of #MothersDay, how would you explain Spotify to your mom? There could be free Spotify Premium in it for her!"
It was accompanied by a picture imagining said conversation between said mother and child reading: "It's music that's in the cloud…no, not that kind of cloud…"
