Labour has launched a direct attack on the track record of David Cameron in an effort to break the polling log jam, by highlighting perceived failures during the Prime Minister’s five years in office.

Aimed at social media, which is not subject to the same restrictions as the mainstream press, the short video compiles various unfavourable news clips from Cameron’s term to highlight controversial issues such as tuition fees, food banks and the bedroom tax.

It concludes with the Cameron saying: ‘Imagine what we could do with five more’.

Premiered on BuzzFeed the piece is a direct response to a series of negative ads created by the Conservatives, variously depicting Milliband as being in Alex Salmond’s pocket and dancing to Salmond’s tune – drawing criticism that they have nothing positive to offer.

The latest ad has been timed to coincide with the so-called Challengers Debate in which Ed Milliband will go head to head with Ukip leader Nigel Farage, the SNP’s Nicola Sturgeon, Green leader Natalie Bennet and Plaid Cymru’s Leanne Wood.

Labour previously pledged not to run billboard campaigns featuring David Cameron to avoid 'negative personalised adverts'.
