Ogilvy & Mather has promoted James Whatley to digital director, a newly created role for the agency.

The promotion comes three years after Whatley joined the agency as senior associate director, most recently serving as social media director.

As digital director Whatley has become responsible for leading integrated digital, mobile, and social thinking from planning and insights through to creative and execution.

He reports to chief innovation officer Mark Lainas, who said the appointment is a further reflection of Ogilvy & Mather's growth and focus on digital innovation.
