Apprentice star and West Ham vice chairman Karren Brady has been appointed by X Factor mogul Simon Cowell as a non-executive director of his company SyCo.

According to reports Cowell's close friend and Arcadia Group CEO, Sir Philip Green, helped mastermind the deal which sees Brady take on a part-time paid role at the company.

Speaking to the Sunday People, a SyCo source said Cowell holds the Apprentice mentor in "high esteem" and is someone he "trusts to come up with ways of building is company".

The source added: "Simon values her contributions enormously. Her forte is in turning businesses around. It's good for him to hear Karren's views on what direction SyCo should go. Karren has this ability to work across different business and has become a huge asset to SyCo."

With offices in London and Los Angeles SyCo is responsible for a number of TV and music brands and has exclusive rights to X Factor and Britain's Got Talent stars including One Direction and Olly Murs.
