Bookmaker Coral has introduced an age gate screen on its Twitter account, to help protect under-age users of the platform.

When a user attempts to follow Coral they will be prompted to provide their date of birth – a system which Twitter previously offered for alcohol brands but has only just opened up for bookmakers.

Tania Seif, head of social marketing at Coral, commented: “The introduction of automated age verification on Twitter is a significant advancement in helping us ensure that we prevent under-age followers from viewing tweets from Coral.”

The verification process has been introduced on Twitter.com as well as on Android and iOS devices.
