Skrill, the online payments company has appointed Neil Ward in the newly created position of group chief product and marketing officer as it looks to implement a “step change” in its product and marketing strategy.

Ward joins Skrill Group from Skype, where he held the position of senior vice president and general manager of global business operations, overseeing the delivery of user experience and operational delivery.

Siegfried Heimgaertner, chief executive of Skrill Group, said: “Neil Ward’s appointment marks a significant step change for Skrill Group, bringing together the marketing and product functions across all group companies.

“His international expertise and deep insight across both business and consumer segments will enable us to better understand and meet customer needs in the rapidly evolving payments industry, dovetailing with our track record of innovating to help our customers pay and get paid globally.”

The news comes months after former Weve CEO David Sear announced that he would be joining Skrill as chief commercial officer.
