Chester Zoo has launched an interactive microsite, days ahead of its story being revealed in a six part BBC One drama, Our Zoo.

The show, which begins on 3 September, reveals how Chester Zoo founder George Mottershead decided to start the zoo and the trials he faced.

CodeComputerlove worked with Chester Zoo to create the Me, You & the Zoo microsite, which will crowd source memories of the zoo throughout its 80 year history.

An initial collection of stories, anecdotes and pictures have been plotted on an interactive timeline that visitors can scroll through, looking at how the zoo has evolved over the decades, covering expansions, royal visits and more.

Chester Zoo’s online marketing manager, Simon Hacking said: “With the new prime time BBC drama airing in autumn, based on the inspiring real-life story of our founder George Mottershead, we anticipate that there will be a lot of nostalgia around the zoo and a desire for people to share their own zoo stories from yesteryear.

“So many people have connections with the zoo and have been part of its history, our website is the perfect vehicle to capture and showcase this.”
