This week, we asked the Drum Network’s member agencies the following question…

If you could appoint anyone from the world of marketing as a non-executive director of your agency, who would it be and why?

Saman Mansourpour, managing director, The Agency –

The world doesn't need another ad agency, no matter how confusing the digital world makes things. But the world does need great places to work. Places where people and business thrive. Places where doing the right thing leads to good things.

This was our mindset back in 2006 when we first started to think about opening up our own shop. There’s lots more to do so finding the right non-executive director to join us would be thrilling.

So we’d choose Jason McCarthy from Goruck fame. Not because we have a particular interest in military based rucksacks, grueling personal training sessions or the American dream. But because he leads his team with a single minded brand proposition that is both old fashioned yet completely relevant today. Challenge excellence and do right by people. Something we can all do with more of.

Ian Malone, managing director, We Are Apps -

We’d choose Phil Jones. Phil is a real mover and shaker in the world of design and marketing. You have to scroll and long way down his LinkedIn profile, beyond the non-exec roles with numerous agencies and the various charitable and industry events he organises, to get to the nub of his real value to a business like ours - he's been there and done it himself. He grew his business, sold it into a larger group, ran the group and exited to carry on the good work by sharing everything he's learned with numerous agencies and start-ups. Plus, he's a really nice bloke.

Jonathan Leafe, managing director, Strawberry –

It would have to be David Ogilvy. There’s no doubt that he wrote the bible on advertising which still makes sense today. He’s sadly not alive, so the chances are slim of getting him around the boardroom table! It just would be very interesting to get his take on the digital age. I know what his response would be. Nothing's really changed, just the delivery method.
