Media specialist Carat has hit upon a novel way of ensuring its staff benefit from some genuine R&R whilst on holiday, by launching a ‘phone hotel’ for staff to deposit their work phones on the MD Matthew Hook’s desk whilst on holiday.

A direct challenge to 24/7 culture the company-wide initiative is designed to promote proper rest and breaks by minimising the temptation to sneak a surreptitious glance at emails whilst on the beach.

Matthew Landeman, client service director, says: “The media business is full of passionate and dedicated people and we feel it’s really important for them to have a restful and relaxing holiday. We want to encourage people to 100% disconnect from the office while away as we know they come back better for it. The Phone Hotel is a bit of fun with a serious message set within an ongoing company commitment to promote work/life balance”
