Neuroscientist Beau Lotto will be conducting a series of experiments at The Drum Live, an annual event where content for an issue of The Drum is produced live in front of an audience.

Lotto will explain the way in which neurodesign – digital experiences designed to take users on a process of discovery and foster empathy and wellbeing – can be used by brands to create more immersive mobile experiences and connect more with audiences.

In today's digitally cluttered world it's important for brands to connect with consumers rather than just broadcasting to them, and according to Lotto, this is the beauty of neurodesign – using digital to re-engage people with the real world.

He told The Drum: "Mobiles are ironically separating us, not just from each other but from our world. When you're looking down into your phone, your brain is literally embodying itself inside the phone."

During and after his talk at The Drum Live, Lotto will demonstrate the principles of neurodesign by conducting experiments on how the brain uses context to create meaning, as well as looking at how to increase empathy.
