Robin Thicke a clear winner after ‘Blurred Lines’ named most downloaded track
Robin Thicke has claimed the most downloaded track in UK music title courtesy of last year’s ‘Blurred Lines’ track after he racked up a record 1.54m sales despite (or perhaps because of) a blaze of controversy surrounding the supposedly sexist track.
The title was researched by the Official Charts Company and announced by BBC Radio 1 which elevated the 2013 single into the top slot.
Its achievement was all the more remarkable as it was banned from public broadcast by several universities following a vocal campaign by women’s rights groups over its choice of lyrics. Others raised eyebrows at the accompanying music video which showed Thicke cavorting with semi-naked dancing girls.
Thicke’s success comes at the expense of Adele’s Someone Like You which has sold a fraction fewer copies at just 1.53m.
