Apple to write Shazam directly into iOS 8
Apple is believed to be working toward integrating popular music search service Shazam directly into its upcoming iOS 8 software update, negating the need for users to download the standalone app.
The popular tool turns its host phone into an impromptu music sampler, listening to snippets of music in the background before comparing it with a database of sounds to identify the correct track.
Reports in Bloomberg suggest that the service would be compatible with the virtual voice assistant Siri, allowing people to make real-world voice commands such as ‘what song is playing?’
Shazam recently introduced an updated version of its iPhone app which can identify songs in the background without being manually called upon to do so, allowing people to track what tunes they have come into contact with on a day by day basis.
iOS 8 is scheduled to launch on 2 June.
