Starcom Mediavest’s new co-CEO Pippa Glucklich has said that the “cut-throat” advertising industry can make it tough for women to reach the top, particularly given that it is not a family-friendly environment.

In an interview for the latest issue of The Drum the mother of two spoke about how women need to be thick-skinned in an industry where fewer than five per cent of creative directors are female, and also discussed the progressive attitude that the Starcom Mediavest Group takes when it comes to flexible and remote working opportunities to accommodate family life.

Glucklich, who shares her role with Steve Parker, described the lack of women in senior business roles as a “terrible loss” of talent and said that the industry has work to do to address the imbalance.

She also talked about her working style and revealed she would rather attempt to do something and fail than merely just think about it, living by the motto ‘try, fail and learn from it’.
