ITV is expected to unveil BBC star Susanna Reid as its new breakfast host next week.

According to the Sunday People, Reid has been handed a £1m deal to defect from the BBC Breakfast sofa and head up a new programme for ITV, rumoured to be named Good Morning Britain.

The presenter's popularity has soared after her appearance on last year's Strictly Come Dancing, and she is credited with lifting BBC Breakfast's ratings from 1.3m to 1.6m.

With its own breakfast show struggling in the ratings battle, ITV will be hoping Reid brings many of her fans across with her when she hops channels.

ITV's current offering, Daybreak, has struggled to build an audience and currently registers only around 700,000 viewers.

An ITV spokesperson said: "There has been a review of ITV breakfast. Some changes will be announced."

Reid has worked for BBC Breakfast for a decade, starting out as a reporter before working her way up the ranks to become the star host.
