Unicef has called upon social media to raise awareness of food shortage as part of World Food Day, today 16 October.

Working with Weapon7, Unicef’s #emptyplate campaign has targeted Instagram and Twitter users, asking people to post images of empty plates on the social networks using the campaign hashtag.

In stark contrast to the common images on sites like Instagram showing plates covered with food, Unicef hopes the campaign will increase awareness and highlight how we take food for granted.
