Commercial Radio Australia has published its latest monthly sales figures which show a surge in metropolitan commercial radio stations revenue of 8.97%.

The election spend contributed to the surge

The total revenue for July is $57.044 million, the sixth consecutive month of growth.

Melbourne’s local figures were the highest in the metropolitan areas, up 14.19% on the same period last year to $17.892 million. Sydney’s revenues increased 7.31% to $18.006 million.

"Several factors, including recent political ad spend, have contributed to a very positive start for radio in the new financial year,” said Joan Warner, chief executive officer of Commercial Radio Australia.

“That this growth is part of an ongoing six-month trend highlights the industry's strength and resilience.

"Radio delivers live, local, high quality content and continues to perform robustly in testing trading conditions."

Adelaide - up 8.49% to $5.101 million

Perth - up 6.09% to $7.384 million
