Base79 has announced the appointment of Patrick Walker, previously senior director of content partnerships for YouTube, as chief content officer.

Walker, who was Google’s first YouTube hire outside North America, launched the video sharing website throughout EMEA, and most recently developed its music strategy for the region.

He said: “The chance to join Base79, and be back in the fray helping build a fast-growth global business in a rapidly evolving unformed space, was too good an opportunity to resist. It’s also a chance to get back to my roots at the crossroads of content and technology, applying the skills I originally learnt as a TV producer and director with my most recent experience in the emerging world of multi-platform video distribution.

“My number one goal is to find new partners and help them, and our current clients succeed in a global, multi-device, multi-platform online video market. For Base79 right now the opportunities are practically unlimited, it’s really a question of where to place our bets next.”

Base79 generates over 650 million views per month across 800 channels on YouTube, making it the largest YouTube multi-channel network outside of North America.
