Almost 500,000 tweets sent in hours following royal baby labour announcement – with less than half from UK
Tweets mentioning the royal baby between the hours of 8am and 4pm BST today made up 98 per cent of the online conversation around Duchess of Cambridge going in to labour, research by NetBase has found.The social intelligence company carried out the research for The Drum, and discovered that 489,896 tweets were sent mentioning the royal baby through the tags royal baby, #royalbaby, Duchess of Cambridge, Hospital Paddington London, Kate Middleton, St. Mary’s Hospital, Royal Highness, Catherine Middleton and Paddington.However, while the UK sent the most tweets about the royal baby during this time, they only accounted for 41 per cent of the overall tweets sent. The US accounted for 29 per cent, followed by Australia at six per cent.It was found that 62 per cent of the tweets were positive, while 38 per cent were negative.Topics discussed around the royal birth included discussions about natural birth and the best stripper name for the baby.
