Newly formed TeamRock Radio has launched a #FreeWifi4UK campaign to lobby the government on rolling out free internet access across the country.

Campaign: TeamRock Radio is calling for UK-wide free Wi-Fi

The station is calling for the creation of 'super Wi-Fi' networks through providers such as EE, Three, T-Mobile, O2 and Virgin, saying the service would boost businesses and innovation and highlighting a similar initiative in South Korea.

The campaign was launched on the station's Breakfast Show, hosted by Moose and JRock, who will fly to South Korean capital Seoul next month to find out more.

JRock said: "I believe that wherever you are in the UK you should be able to log on to the internet. This initiative could also be supported by advertising to make it a commercial venture with users having to watch a 15-second video per hour before access is authorised.

"The UK needs to be leading the way and this could be a great opportunity."

Moose added: "The future of all content delivery lies in mobile connections and in relative terms, the UK is well behind countries like South Korea. If the UK aspires to develop a competitive edge we must not aspire to emulate but rather surpass what countries like South Korea are doing."

The station has launched an e-petition which requires 100,000 signatures to get the debate to the House of Commons.
