Publishing giant Trinity Mirror has today launched four free ‘Star’ branded newspapers in North Liverpool, each serving a different district; Anfield and Walton, Maghull and Aintree, Kirkby, and Crosby and Bootle.

Designed to showcase community content in a magazine-style format it is hoped that the hyper-local editions will capture a fresh slice of the advertising market.

Trinity Mirror North West editor-in-chief Alastair Machray, said: ''I am delighted we are launching newspapers in what has been a challenging era.

''These are proud, distinct communities which deserve their own newspapers to reflect their own lives.

''The new designs are exciting and refreshing and, hopefully, captivating for both readers and advertisers.''

No new journalists have been hired to man the new titles, with content being supplied by the publisher's communities team based in Liverpool.
